Located on 260 acres of farmland in Newbury, New Hampshire, the Baker Hill Golf Club overlooks Lake Sunapee and offers spectacular views of Mount Sunapee and other New England mountains. The property was purchased in 1998 by a group of golfers who were interested in developing a first-rate private equity golf club in the Sunapee/New London area. They selected Rees Jones to design the course because of his reputation as one of the outstanding golf course architects in the world. Nine holes were opened for play in 2001, and the full 18 holes opened in June of 2002. The membership of the club is limited to 225 so that members can enjoy “no tee-time” golf and other amenities.

The club’s name comes from the Benjamin Baker farm, which was once located on the property. One of the earliest settlers in the Newbury area, Benjamin Baker (1717-1799) served in the 1st New Hampshire Regiment in the Revolutionary War and fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill. He is buried in a small family cemetery adjacent to the first fairway.
The halfway house was reconstructed from the
oldest structure found on the property.
Three barns from the Baker farm have been restored and now function as club buildings. Most noteworthy is the pro shop which features the original post and beam frame structure and is believed to be the most historic golf course building in the United States. A second barn is being used for cart storage, and a third barn has been moved to a location in the middle of the golf course where it serves as a halfway house.

From north or south, follow Interstate 89 to Exit 11. Go west on King Hill Road for 2.4 miles to route 103A. Turn left and continue on 103A for 1.4 miles. Turn left on Baker Hill Road. The club is 0.6 miles on the right.
